Children...

I don't want them to grow up too quickly and miss what being young and carefree is all about.
I want them to enjoy it all. But being their mom, I want to be part of their enjoyment too...So far so good.

A Lovely Night Out

The Rooster and I have been trying to spend some quality time with the Chicks. Easier said then done. They are busier then we are! Being a final GCSE and A level year, they are snowed under already with work. Rooster and I just want them to know we're there for them.

Rooster left work early and went and watched a rugby game that the boy was in while I took my Chick up to Cambridge for the Cambridge movie premier of I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson at The Odeon. We were invited to the cocktail party before hand and had Allison sign our books then joined the guests for the movie. She spoke to the audience for a few minutes and was very entertaining and a pleasure to listen to. We both enjoyed the movie and there were more then enough references  to the real workings of a working mom to amuse both of us. Though I don't have a high powered job like the Kate Reddy character, I could still relate to what she and some of the other mom characters go through!

Juggling, juggling, juggling is the answer.

My little real chickens have finally started laying eggs! Little eggs but beggers can't be choosers. What good girls.

Sweet Holiday

I have a very long day today and it doesn't help that it started at 4:30 this morning when our lovely old cat Casper spooked a fox in our driveway, making an awful noise that bolted me right out of my slumber. I think it was the cat that made the noise. Our bedroom over looks that play ground and as it was still dark at that hour, the security lights came on full tilt. Rooster moved quicker then I did which was a bit of a surprise at that hour, and was watching the cat and fox for a full minute before I could even put my glasses on.

He then explained that he had been tossing and turning for the last hour and couldn't sleep. Well, that was all it took for him to promptly fall asleep and start snoring as bad as our old dog. So then I was fully awake and it was 4:40 when I threw back my beloved duvet and left him snoring away.

I know the new chickens are safe as I created Fort Knox last week. There are three doors to get in to the hen house. One door with a proper latch and the hen entrance with a double whammy, sliding door up and down and pulley door to the side. I keep smacking one of my chicks as she hears me coming to open the door and gets in the way of the pulley door. A few more times and I suspect she will figure it out.

So in the wee hours of this morning, I have cleaned out the fridge, folded laundry, charged and found batteries for cameras and ipods, inspected noisy culprit who came meowing at the window for wounds(none), changed blog picture and am just about to have my second cup of tea. I wish I hadn't packed last night for our sweet holiday because that could have taken me right through the breakfast news!

Our flight doesn't leave until 10pm tonight so I shall be a walking nightmare in the airport by 8pm. Good luck to my darling chicks and lovely rooster that will be dragging me along.

Head games

I'm so pleased with my three little feathered friends. They are laying eggs daily, big fat eggs. I thought maybe this foul (ha ha) weather might put them off but not a chance.

Puppy class was great fun yesterday. Even though our recall skills are hit and miss- and I say 'ours' because Cadi isn't totaly to blame for her stuborness- and we freaked some poor insecure woman out with  a rottwieler, we still had fun. We got to do some agility training. Since Cadi is still only 8 months old, she got to jump over  little cross jump and thought it was pretty fun. We did lots of weaving and leg work and then went home and slept for the rest of the day.
It exhausted both of us.

So, I am on day 16 of the head ache. I've been to the doctor three times and am on the third type of pill to try to ease the ache. He didn't really have much hope for this last pill but he wants to rule out migrains before he sends me off to a specialist.
Headaches are really boring. I have things to do, places to go and friends to see and children to take care of and this is slowing me down.
I don't like ths game.

It's like a really bad movie that I just want to walk out of, when I see so much death on television.
I know I can change the channel but it doesn't change the fact that thousands of lives have been so tragically lost.
Knowing that so many children have died is heart wrenching.
I think what is almost worse is that so many parents have probably died as well.
 Families separated by death.
Some days I don't even want to let my own children out of my sight.
I feel torn when they want to go off and do something on their own.
Who knows what I'll be like when they want to go off and travel to distant lands!
I'll probably be a wreck.
Then who will take care of the chickens!
Everyday life takes on a new meaning in a country that can be devastated by nature.
Thank goodness jolly ol' England has a pretty low natural disaster index.
A bit of wind and rain now and again seems to keep us busy enough.
Two eggs today-but I don't know who is laying the second egg.
All four of them are so happy to see me when I go out and visit them. 'Buurrrr'
It's nice to have such a simple puzzle to work out.
