Children...

I don't want them to grow up too quickly and miss what being young and carefree is all about.
I want them to enjoy it all. But being their mom, I want to be part of their enjoyment too...So far so good.

I don't speak 'Puppy" and my 'teen' is a bit rusty

A big transformation has happened in our home. Our puppy now speaks. At nine months, she has found her voice and though I don't speak 'puppy', I do get some of the things she wants by where she stands in the room. Something else new- The teen chicks have regressed from speaking out loud. They will have arthriatis in their thumbs by the time they are 25 with the amount or texting they do.

Puppy transformation is fun if not a bit of a game for me. I am easily amused so puppy tricks are fun for me most of the time. If she stands near her food bowl or by the water bowl are easy ones. She stands staring at me near these spots and growls in a sort of ruff whinny sort of way. I feed and water these noises.

She does a similar sound with a higher pitch ruff when she wants to go out. Again, easy.

Then there is the waking me up out of bed noise which I think I only hear part of as she does it at a very early hour to wake me up so I don't catch the whole noise, I just get some and then the action to go with it. Little black tongue up my nose. Yuck first thing in the morning. I never should have brought her up to our bedroom when Rooster got stuck in New York at Christmas time.

Tonight was a new noise and I am clueless. There she stood while I was catching up on blogs, and ruffed in a quizzical way while staring straight at me and added a little bounce. She'd been fed and watered and had been out so really what was left but to annoy me. she has two other dogs to play with so I really didn't feel the need to get down on my knees and play with a pull toy with her and she's a fat little thing so I wasn't going to give her more food.  Oops, she just swung and smacked a rope toy in older dogs face and sent older dog off in a huff. Glad I don't speak dog as I think dog just gave puppy the f...off.

Thinking about it, My chick teens are like the puppy. They don't really speak but do a lot of starring at me. They stand in front of the fridge or oven magically expecting food to materialize. They drink from cartons and taps. Puppy tries to drink from the downstairs loo like the big dogs, so cute. I hope the teens don't pick up on this habit.

The teens sometimes just say 'thank you' for no reason and out of context. This really throws me. "For what?" I say but then get nothing. Sometimes they even say 'hello'. I throw them a biscuit for that.

Sometimes I talk to the teen chicks like I talk to the dogs, that does not go over well and I get a lot of noise from them, especially the girl chick.  A 'good girl' or 'clean puppy' doesn't wash with a teenager.

Yes, sometimes I have better conversations and more fun with the dogs then I do with the teens. They are instantly gratified with a treat and I don't get back talk.

When it was my birthday last month, my family asked me what I would like. And after weighing up my options, I chose to have a tree man come and trim back three trees in our garden that will be shading our new patio this summer. I thought it was a perfectly good present, easy and something that I wanted. My daughter now thinks that I'm just about the saddest person on the whole road! My son wasn't really bothered but refuses to get involved with the clean up and the rooster, well, all he has to do it write out the check.
So I did my homework and got the three quotes in and basically, if I bought a new car, it would be cheaper! So I think I'm getting a new puppy instead. The trees will not be butchered as I hoped and one weekend soon, we will take the worst of the trees down ourselves. It's just a hassle as I have to dig out the chainsaw, find the extra chains and lug the whole lot off to be cleaned and sharpened. Then stand around with my heart in my stomach as rooster cuts the worse offender down with out cutting off a foot and hitting the house!!

As for the puppy, we'll see. I have been talking about one for nearly a year now and I guess I have finally worn them all down. Our lovely boy is nearly 8 and starting to move a little slower and our little girl is nearly 5 and moves just as bloody fast as she can especially off the lead when there is a rabbit or pheasant involved! So we will see. There is a litter due from a breeder at the end of May for end of July take home. Very exciting.

I have been very dedicated to the lap top recently and have started to put my second children's fiction story onto Word. Most of it is pen and paper so it's a big deal for me to re write on the key board. Still looking for an agent for the first story but good things come to those moms who wait.
So Easter has come and gone. Boy and I are studying hard- revising. I am now a wizz at geography and PE GCSE and getting better at Russian History. I have managed to stay clear of Math and Chemistry. They completely bore me in the real world so I am hardly going to be any good at them for revision. If the boy could go through life with a stick and ball, he would be all set.
