Well, it is October After All

Don't panic, but it's October which means that society will now throw the holiday season in our face. 


 Extravaganza Christmas shopping flyers will fall through your letter box to entice you to go to old converted Essex or Suffolk barns to spend your money on fabulous knitted bits and luxury all natural pieces. You will be lulled into thinking about presents for sister and brothers that you don't normally buy for. Organic hams, nettle covered cheeses and plum spice chutneys will make up the perfect Christmas hamper for great Aunt So and So. You throw your parking meter coins into the beautiful cut glass jar that will help restore the kneeling cushions in the parish church. The supermarkets advertise giant tins of chocolates that nobody really needs but everybody really wants. You can start stocking up now on 3 for 2 bottles of bubbly for the holiday parties. And quietly, the garden centers are displaying singing penguins families that light up in your garden, making your electricity meter spin madly until January. 

I am adding to it. I am part of that society. I help decorate a Christmas shop and yes, I started in August (it takes a long time to do it right).




 I also help run an on line Christmas shop and finished doing photos last month to brighten things up for the season. The thing is though, I don't see it as Christmas stuff anymore. It is just stuff that happens to sell really well for Christmas. I don't mind the flyers and church fairs. I laugh at the big boxes of chocolates. And really, who doesn't need an extra bottle of bubbly in the fridge no matter the time of year. 


What is strange though is that it is 85 degrees in Essex and it is October. So really, it is hard to get my head around the decorating when I have to do it in   't' shirt and shorts.
