I don't want them to grow up too quickly and miss what being young and carefree is all about.
I want them to enjoy it all. But being their mom, I want to be part of their enjoyment too...So far so good.

This picture is what I feel like. Bleak, grey, sparse, hidden in the mist.

Since last weekend, we just have not been out of the mist.

It has really affected me and I haven't wanted to go out at all. I hate to even do the school run when it's like this. I just want to stay in with all the lights on and the heating turned up. I want warm and bright!

I don't know why I haven't been tittering away on the laptop on my blog. The weather has made me anti social I think.

The only bright and cheery place seems to be Sainsbury's and that Is sad that I think that. I have strolled up and down their cheery bright isles twice in the last week. Bright packaging, shiny happy fruit and veg isles, warm bread from the bakery and under cover parking so I didn't even have to get wet!

I find when the weather sucks, I take to the kitchen. I turn the food network channel on and putter. Making sunny, colourful food cheers me up. Pumpkin crumble bread, oriental spice chicken, cranberry oat squares, homemade ragu sauce with meatballs, pea soup. Anything with colour. The freezer is filling up fast. I think I have drunk a couple of gallons of tea over the last week while I have been stirring, baking and creating in my kitchen. I will be fat and have badly stained teeth by the end of March if I'm not careful.

I feel bad that the dogs have had shorter walks because I don't want to be out. They are just happy to get a bit of a run around, they don't care what the weather is. I have been throwing the ball in the kitchen and Up the stairs for them too. They just like to play and don't really care if it's in or out. The chickens too, are happy in any weather, silly things. They dig and scratch in any crappy weather.

What has been cheering me up is some really good hockey that my teen chicks have been playing lately. I have had to go out for that and have dressed in all my winter wear to do so. The end of the season brings on all the best games, county and school cup games with lots of parents cheering them on.
It's all a bit of an adrenalin rush when they are winning and I have to say the chicks are on a winning streak. It's a warm and sunny feeling, watching them play. It really does make me feel good. I have probably jinxed it now, their winning streak.

Snap out of it woman and get a grip, April isn't too far a way and there is so much other really horrible things going on in the world right now.  Time for another cup of tea.

  1. I'm sorry the weather is getting you down. We've had some really gorgeous days down here in the West Country but this morning was grey and foggy. I'm now sitting in my office with the sun streaming through the window so hopefully it's making it's way to you very soon

  2. I grew up in a semi desert so I adore the weather you are describing. Mostly for the novelty factor. On the other hand, if I had to live with it for more than two weeks I would probably be ready to chew my wrists off. Good luck with the hockey and hope the weather improves soon.

  3. Oh, you poor girl, I loathe weather like that... and feel just as you do. Lets hope that the sun makes an appearance toute suite, and that you can start to feel that Spring is on the way. x
