Children...

I don't want them to grow up too quickly and miss what being young and carefree is all about.
I want them to enjoy it all. But being their mom, I want to be part of their enjoyment too...So far so good.

CT state of mind

I have started the holidays with family in Conneticut and though we have been kayaking on a river and swimming in various pools, I have yet to set a foot on lovely Cape Cod and stick my toe in shark infested waters. But that will happen tomorrow, without the sharks, we hope.

I have had 5 days with doing the catch up family thing and so far so good. And because life is too short, I am not going to blog complaints about any of them today. No pictures either, sorry as the ones I have taken so far are of Belted Galloway Cows and mishaps on the Housatonic River. That and as I am borrowing my sister in laws brand new ipad, I don't know how to load anything and everyone is still asleep. Jet lag is a bitch and I have been awake for hours and shattered by 9:30 every night.

Sister in law is visiting on the Cape next weekend so maybe she will bring this lovely little sleek toy and show me how to do cool stuff on it. Or my 8 year old niece will!

It's strange being back in the old home town. I haven't really spent any time here since I moved to England and married my English man more then 20 years ago. I went for a run around the 'old neighborhood' and the houses should seem smaller as one gets bigger but they are HUGE around here now. Greenwich, Ct is a very different place from my childhood. Still nice but , wow, I think there is an English Tudor house in the place where an old friend of mine once had a lovely farm house. I guess some change is good. It is really green here still, the Canadian Geese still honk and fly into the lake and mossis still bite your ankles under the picnic table.

I think though, my home is in England now. Greenwich is just where I started to grow up.

Right, off to the beach now.

  1. It's shocking to me how many shark sightings there have been in/around the Cape this year! You wouldn't think the water was hot enough for them. Have a lovely hol!

  2. When I go home (near Newcastle upon Tyne) I can barely find my way round they've changed it so much. It's still home though, even after 20 year in the USA.

  3. Isn't it funny to re-visit places of your childhood or even teenage years?

Having been in London now for close on 20 years, 'this' would be the closest thing to home, but strangely does not quite carry the same sense of belonging.

    Weird, huh?
