Children...

I don't want them to grow up too quickly and miss what being young and carefree is all about.
I want them to enjoy it all. But being their mom, I want to be part of their enjoyment too...So far so good.

Away with the fairies, I mean my holidays

I am off with the Chicks and the Rooster to America on holiday.   will try to amuse you all by posting from America with pictures, maybe.  If not, I'll be back in three weeks time.

In the mean time, I am a holiday worrier.

I spend the week before hand nesting and cleaning and organising and plain worrying about going away. The day before I travel I live on ant-acids and IBS tablets.

I'm not a nervous flyer or anything, and I love to travel but it's just that leaving of my nice little life to go off and do it somewhere else, turns me upside down. The chicks think I am a bit insane before I travel. They are right.

I like to leave everything tidy so it's that way when I get home. That's what I like to think  though it doesn't always happen that way. Sorry, was that 'control freak' that you said? 'Yes, you did say that out loud'.

I always feel sorry for our poor house sitter. I leave her a bit of light reading that I have painstakingly put together over the few days before we leave. This time I have left her a relatively short novel of 9 pages.
95% of which is how to take care of the animals while we are away. I'm hopeless.
She'll spoil them rotten and they won't even miss me!!

I will miss our garden as well. We have been having such a nice time in it even thought he grass is brown and it looks like the Fall as so many leaves have fallen from the trees. The river is warm though and the sun has been shinning. we have been using the BBQ most nights and have even used the out door shower. It does run hot and cold water and is very un-English and we love it. It has a huge purple clematis growing up the wall of it to hide us from passers by.

When we get to our first holiday destination and our second actually, I am hoping not to have to be cooking and cleaning like I will be when we get to our third destination. We are doing the family obligation trips first, great aunts and such. Then we will be on the beach in Cape Cod and that will be wonderful even if I am cooking and cleaning. Cooking lobster and fresh tuna on the grill and washing bathing suits and beach towels is my sort of holiday.

Then the day before we leave our holiday house, I will be the worrier again. I will have to start on the tablets and throw my organisational skills into high. We don't just pack up the suit cases there, we have to put all our own stuff that we keep there year round away, clean and dry.
The good sheets and towels.
The bikes.
The kayaks.
The favourite pots and pans.
The beach and holiday shoes, there are two baskets full.
The boogie boards.
The beach towels.
And the list goes on.

I love it but I drive myself mad and then collapse on the plane going home to my nice clean and organised house in England. Yah, sure.

Oh, I can hear one of the chicks cleaning her room, like Mother like daughter but she can't have any of my pills.
OMG, her suit case is huge!!!! How can bathing suits take up so much room???
More worries, I think I need a nice plane to collapse on.

  4. We arrived in USA 2 weeks ago and having a ball. It's soon going to be all that packing and so on in reverse, but got a lovely clean house with fresh sheets to go home to as did it all before I left too! Enjoy!

  5. Even with all that worrying, your holiday sounds as if it will be idyllic. Have fun!
